Nigeria ranks third globally for students studying abroad [See top 10] — a feat that underscores its growing international presence. In its inaugural Higher Education Global Trends Report released on Tuesday, UNESCO highlighted Nigeria's status as one of the world’s largest student mobility hubs, accounting for five percent of all internationally mobile students in 2023. This marks a significant shift from previous years, where only a fraction of higher education students accessed opportunities abroad. The report emphasizes that while global student mobility has expanded rapidly over the past two decades, fewer than three percent of higher education students benefit from academic mobility, reflecting a growing gap between access and impact.
