In a surprising twist, Jimmy Kimmel and President Donald Trump have found a unique common ground, but it's not exactly harmonious.
During his monologue on "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" on December 8, Kimmel responded to Trump's recent jabs, which included some rather scathing comments about Kimmel's hosting abilities. Trump, who was hosting the Kennedy Center Honors, stated that Kimmel was "horrible" and even suggested that if he couldn't outshine Kimmel, he shouldn't be president.
Kimmel's witty retort? "Agreed," he said. "I don't think I've ever agreed with anything more." He then playfully questioned whether Trump even knew he hadn't hosted the Kennedy Center Honors, suggesting Trump might be confusing him with Queen Latifah.
But here's where it gets controversial. Kimmel took it a step further, suggesting Trump might have a crush on him. "He is really fixated, I'm starting to think he might have a crush on me," Kimmel joked.
And this is the part most people miss: Kimmel's comments came just days after it was confirmed that he had signed a one-year extension with ABC, ensuring his role as host of "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" through May 2027.
Trump, who has been vocal about his dislike for Kimmel and other late-night hosts who criticize him, has regularly called for Kimmel's removal from the airwaves. In November, he took to Truth Social to express his frustration, writing, "Get the bum off the air!!!"
During his December 8 monologue, Kimmel acknowledged Trump's ongoing attacks and confirmed his contract extension, knowing full well it would not please the president.
"The last thing I want to do is upset you during this sensitive time," Kimmel said, addressing Trump directly.
So, is this a case of Trump's admiration for Kimmel's talent, or is it a sign of his frustration with the comedian's relentless criticism? What do you think? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments below!
